What we do ?
The activities of the Pharmacy Council are carried out through the following operational systems:
- Licensing and Registration – Involves screening and taking inventory of all applications for registration and renewals of premises; monitoring and ensuring timely processing of registration and renewal applications; collating and managing the inventories of all documents for registration and renewals; licensing of premises for pharmacies and licensed chemical sellers; registration of qualified pharmacists; regulating the distribution of Pharmacies.
- Education and Training – Designing and monitoring accreditation of training institutions and programmes for pharmacists and pharmacy interns; developing and organizing effective and relevant continuing professional education and training for pharmacists and other pharmaceutical care providers; monitoring and ensuring the quality of training of pharmacy interns; developing and reviewing training guidelines for pharmacists, pharmacy interns and other pharmaceutical care providers; organizing the Ghana Pharmacy Professional Qualifying Examination (GPPQE); registration and induction of newly qualified pharmacists.
- Inspections and Monitoring/Enforcement – Enforcement of the laws governing Pharmacy practice through inspections and monitoring of pharmaceutical service providers; conducting special investigative inspections; implementing enforcement actions of the disciplinary and general purpose committees.
- Public Relations – Enhancing the public image and positive perception of the Council; creating awareness about the activities of the Council; publication of newsletter for circulation amongst stakeholders; instituting meritorious awards ceremony for pharmacists
- Collaboration – Developing and maintaining strong cooperative and effective working relationship with all related local agencies and International Pharmaceutical Organizations.
- Management and administration – Preparing working documents and planning work schedules for all the relevant committees of the Council; coordinating and ensuring the effective implementation of decisions and recommendations of the Council and its committees; recommending policies on licensing and enforcement; ensuring ready availability of current updated and relevant database to support the activities of the council; providing information on pharmacists, pharmacies and licensed chemical sellers; undertaking operational research; maintaining the register of pharmacists; preparing periodic reports for the Council, Ministry of Health and other stakeholders; general administrative duties.
