This medication is used to reduce extreme sleepiness due to several sleeping disorders. Its generic name is Armodafinil.
How it works
Armodafinil is thought to work by affecting certain substances in the brain that controls the sleeping and waking cycle. This is currently approved to treat excessive daytime sleepiness associated with several sleeping disorders.
Armodafinil has properties similar to that of modafinil, which is also a wakefulness drug.
Armodafinil is an indirect dopamine receptor agonist and inhibit dopamine reuptake.
Nuvigil is used to treat many sleeping disorders and helps individuals stay up when necessary. It treats excessive sleepiness disorders such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy or shift work sleep disorder.
This medication does not cure sleep disorders.
There are different dosages for the different sleeping disorders one might experience.
The usual and general dosage for patients with narcolepsy is 150 mg to 250 mg consumed by mouth, once a day as a single dosage, in the morning.
Nuvigil tablets come in different mgs, ranging from 50 mg to 250 mg. Do not administer more than you were recommended to, and consult a doctor if you skip a dosage.

Irregular heartbeat, pounding and fast heart beats.

Symptoms of an overdose include;
Chest pain and discomfort
In order to ensure that Nuvigil is safe for you, let your doctor know if you have any of the following;
Liver or kidney diseases
Heart disease or a history of heart attacks
High blood pressure
History of mental illnesses or psychosis
Drug or alcohol addiction
Heart muscle or valve disorder
Let your doctor know if you are allergic to modafinil or armodafinil. You need to let your doctor know if you are allergic to anything or are currently on any medication, so that they are informed.
Nuvigil can make certain forms of birth control less effective, so consult your doctor on what your available options might be.
Sleep disorders may affect your ability to react quickly, therefore you will have to avoid doing activities that require alertness and quick reflexes. You must certainly not drive after taking your dose.

It is not known whether nuvigil passes on to breast milk or if it could affect an infant, so consult your doctor beforehand.
You need to also inform your physician if you are breastfeeding a baby, in order to avoid any sort of consequence. This medication is not to be administered to children.
