RE-LICENSURE POLICY FOR REGISTERED PHARMACISTS

   WHAT IS THE RE-LICENSURE POLICY ABOUT?

The policy is about improving the quality of pharmaceutical service provision by registered pharmacists who have the most current and relevant knowledge and skills in the practice of pharmacy through retention of names in the Register of Pharmacists using participation in Continuing Education (CE) as the eligibility criteria.

   WHAT DOES THE POLICY SEEK TO DO?

  1. To retain the names of pharmacists in Good standing in the Register of Pharmacists
  2. To review and update the Register of Pharmacists
  3. To ensure that pharmacists are continuously acquiring new and relevant information and skills necessary for the efficient, safe and effective delivery of pharmaceutical service.
  4. To collect and manage data on pharmacists particularly on Continuing Education and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
  5. To provide accurate and reliable data on pharmacists
  6. To serve as a means of sampling opinions of pharmacists particularly on Continuing Education (CE) and the practice of pharmacy in general.

   WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO THE REGISTERED PHARMACISTS?

  1. Helps Pharmacists to acquire new knowledge and skills pertaining to the practice.
  2. Helps Pharmacists to improve upon already acquired knowledge and skills.
  3. Provide pharmacists with credit Log books for documentation of Continuing Education attended.
  4. Provide pharmacists with Professional Identification Cards (PIC) valid for the re-licensure period

   WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO THE CONSUMER / GENERAL PUBLIC

  1. It ensures that the general public receives the best quality of pharmaceutical care.

    HOW DO PHARMACISTS APPLY FOR RE-LICENSURE?

  • Participation and attaining minimum credits in Continuing Education (CE) shall be a pre-requisite.
  • Submission of Completed Re-licensure Application Form (CRAF) obtainable from
  • any of the Council’s Regional or Zonal Offices
  • Provide copies of certificate or evidence of participation in CE programmes or
  • filled-in Credit Log Book.
  • Pay a prescribed fee.
  • Provide one recently taken passport size photograph

   HOW DO I ATTAIN MY MINIMUM CREDITS?

  • The participation or involvement with evidence in any of the following.
PROGRAMS CREDITS OBTAINABLE
Attendance and participation in CE programs organized by the Pharmacy Council A minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 6 credits is obtainable
Independent studies (submission of a list of specific articles, journals, instructional videos, etc is required A minimum of 2 credits per publication up to a maximum of 2 credits is obtainable
Attendance and Participation in PSGH organized (sponsored) conferences, CE or Scientific program A minimum of 2 credits per publication up to a maximum of 2 credits is obtainable
Attendance and Participation in PSGH organized (sponsored) conferences, CE or Scientific program A minimum of 2 credits up to a maximum of 6 credits per program is obtainable
Service as a preceptor/ supervisor to a pharmacy house officer A minimum of 5 credits to a maximum of 5 credits per service period is obtainable
Service as a facilitator or resource person for approved CE program A minimum of 2 credits per program up to a maximum of 4 credits is obtainable
Approved presentations by Pharmacists Maximum of 2 credits is obtainable
Regular attendance to meetings of PSGH A minimum of 2 credits to a maximum of 6 credits per meeting is obtainable
Successful completion of pharmacy related course Maximum of 2 credits is obtainable
Post-graduate studies in pharmacy related field. Maximum of 10 credits is obtainable
Fellowship program of WAPCP Maximum of 10 credits is obtainable
Attendance of FIP, CPA, WAPCP and any approved international conferences or programs A minimum of 2 credits up to a maximum of 8 credits per program is obtainable
Any other accredited program and courses of the Pharmacy Council A minimum of 1 credit to a maximum of 6 credits per program is obtainable

NB...Maximum credits obtainable per program for each retention period shall be determined by the Pharmacy Council.

   WHAT IS THE VALIDITY OF RE-LICENSURE?

  1. Two years

   WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE OF RE-LICENSURE?

The Pharmacist name shall be retained in the Register of Pharmacists and issued with a professional ID card and a certificate of re-licensure.
