The utmost aim of the policy is to build a trusted group of qualified auxiliary pharmacy personnel to provide competent, acceptable and ethical methods of handling medication. Thus the policy seeks to ensure that all persons working as assistants in pharmacies or related establishments possess the minimum demonstrable competence.
The Pharmacy Council is urging all pharmacy proprietors to take on trained MCAs or encourage their assistants to undertake the MCA training since it would eventually constitute a minimum acceptable qualification for personnel who wish to assist in pharmacies
