PREMISES LICENSING & ENFORCEMENT

The Premises Licenseing and Enforcement Department(PLED) is iinvolved in the registering and licensing of new facilities as well as renewing licenses for existing facilites. The department also deals with enforcement of activites of the council.

Function

  1. Designing all application documents for Pharmacies, Chemical and Herbal shops.
  2. Screening and taking inventory for all applications for the registration of new facilities
  3. Processing the renewal of existing facilities ensuring their timely processing
  4. Planning and preparing working documents and schedules for the Registration Committee
  5. Keeping and updating records on existing facilities.
  6. Distributing and ensuring the availability of application documents.

Pharmacy Act:


This will include the entire transcript of the Pharmacy Act,( Act 489 ) 1994. For full version of the act Contact the Council for information on the Act.

L.I. (1645) 1998:


Will include the entire transcript of the legislative instrument on Pharmacy Practice (disciplinary procedure and fees)regulation 1998.

NEW REGISTRATION

The following documents and information are to be made available to PLED after approval has been granted. This also applies to facilities who wish to vary their license;

  . Code number of application.
  . Copy of approval letter.
  . Final Inspection Report.
  . Date of Council meeting at which the application was approved

RENEWALS

  1. PHARMACIES
  2. The following documents are required for the processing of renewals;
    • Completed Renewal form with Pharmacist Declarations
    • Old license
    • PSGH receipts
    • Evidence of payment of renewal fee

  3. LICENSED CHEMICAL SELLERS
    • Two passport size photographs
    • Old license
    • Evidence of payment of renewal fee

  4. MISSING LICENSES
  5. In addition to standard Requirements the following are to be submitted for renewal:
    • Photocopy of old license.
    • Photocopy of yellow card or any authentic picture bearing identity documents( If item 1 is not available in the case of licensed chemical sellers).
    • Police extract.

Pharmaceutical Service facilities

This will give guidelines for the renewal of existing Pharmacies
( various types ), Licensed Chemical Sellers shops and hospital Pharmacies.

Database of Pharmacies:

This will give total number of Pharmacist in good standing with the council and their distribution in terms of region and district. It will also have an online form of a request via e-mail for consumers who wants information about a particular pharmacy. The possibility of having an online searchable database will still be explored considering the cost implications.

Perpetual Pharmacies:

This action will serve as useful information to the public on Pharmacies that are open till late (12 midnight) ,24 hours, work on sundays and holidays etc.

Re-licensure for registered Pharmacists 

The Pharmacy Council is mandated by the Pharmacy Act 1994 (Act 489) to secure in the public’s interest the highest standards in the practice of Pharmacy among others.
This responsibility, the Council performs through education, training, regulation enforcement, monitoring and evaluation.
