Motilium is an oral medicine which is known to be an antiemetic and a prokinetic medicine. It is also called domperidone. Motilium is usually used to treat conditions such as nausea and vomiting or any other discomfort caused due to the slow movements of the stomach which is called gastroparesis.
How It Works
When you feel that your stomach is too full or when you lose appetite and start vomiting, Motilium could be the perfect answer that will give you relief. This medication results in obstructing chemical messenger actions taking place in the brain which remains to be the reason behind nausea and vomiting. Furthermore, the medication helps enhance the contractions of the stomach and bowels, letting the food travel smoothly through the stomach.
The normal dosage given to an adult is 10mg to 20 mg three to four times daily. A maximum daily dose can be given up to 80mg. However you are supposed to follow the medical instructions as your doctor may decide the particular dose after reviewing your health conditions. Motilium is usually recommended to be taken 15 to 30 minutes prior to meals, and if there is any necessity, it can be taken at bedtime.
Before you start to take Motilium, you should inform your doctor, if you have any of the health conditions such as, expecting a baby or having plans to be a mom soon, nursing a baby, having a known heart condition, having any kidney related conditions, having or have experienced a breast cancer, any inability to digest lactose, a sugar included in dairy products etc. specifically, Motilium should never be given to children.
Considering your safety, you should make sure that the drug you take would not create any harmful complications in your body. So if you are having any of the following conditions, do not take Motilium.
If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Motilium
If you are suffering from a prolactinoma tumor
If you are a liver patient
If you are a heart patient
If you are taking any medicine which contains active components used for fungal infections treatments such as ketoconazole, voriconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole.
Any medicine may result in side effects. Those side effects could emerge in different manners. Just like any other medicines, Motilium too creates its own side effects. Some of them are mild and manageable while some seem to be serious and severe. Therefore depending on the side effect that you experience, you can decide whether to seek medical care or to manage the situation. If any of the side effects continue for a longer period unusually, you should inform it to your medical advisor and seek necessary advise.
