Singulair is a medication used to treat breathing issues that are caused as a result of asthma. This medication is also known as Montelukast.
How it works
This medication works by blocking certain natural substances in the body. By blocking substances such as leukotrienes, it prevents asthma attacks from happening. The medication makes breathing much easier by reducing the inflammation in the airways.
Singulair is mainly prescribed to reduce the effects of asthma such as wheezing and shortness of breath. The medication is also used to reduce the number of asthma attacks. If you experience breathing problems while exercising, this medication will be able to cure that as well.
This medication can be taken by mouth, with or without food. The dosage will be determined by your physician based on your medical condition and response to the treatment. If you are opting for chewable tablets, make sure to chew them well before you swallow them.
If you are taking this medication to prevent both asthma attacks and allergies, take your dose in the night time. However, if you are only using Singulair for asthma allergies, then you can take your dose in the morning. If you are taking this medication to treat asthma that occurs during exercise, make sure to take it at least two hours before you begin to exercise.
If you wish to experience the best effects of this medication, you need to take it as regularly as possible. Therefore, make sure to take your dose every day without fail. Do not skip or miss your dose accidently or otherwise. If you keep forgetting your dose, then take it at the same time every day. This will definitely be of help.
Never increase or decrease your dosage without consulting your physician. Doing so can interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment. If you are making any changes to the dose or the schedule, inform your physician first.
